Carolyn Lewis Hodges

Mrs. Carolyn Lewis Hodges, age 85 of Clarkesville, Georgia entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 09, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.



Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on January 01, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Dr. George Truman Lewis and Dorothy Wright Lewis. Carolyn moved to Georgia at the age of two and graduated from the Decatur Girls High School in 1942. She went on to also graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Emory University School of Nursing in 1947 and taught in the Nursing Arts program at the school for 1 year. Carolyn married Dr. Thomas L. Hodges, Jr. in 1944 and moved to Habersham County in 1958. She was actively involved for many years in her community, serving with numerous organizations including the Clarkesville City Council, the Clarkesville Library Board, Habitat for Humanity, Sharing & Caring Place, and also participated in multiple mission trips with the United Methodist Mission Team to Kentucky, North Carolina, South Georgia, and Western Florida. Carolyn was a member of the Kite Stribling Circle of the United Methodist Church in which she was honored for serving over 50 years and was a faithful member of the Clarkesville United Methodist Church. Carolyn enjoyed canoeing, camping, and was an avid gardener. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and will always be remembered for her warmth and compassion for always welcoming people into her home.



Survivors include her loving husband of 66 years, Dr. Thomas L. Hodges, Jr., Clarkesville, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol & Alan Horne, Monroe, GA; Nancy & Chip Johnson, Hollywood, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas L. Hodges, III & Beth Hodges, Elberton, GA; Richard W. Hodges & Reann Dukes, Sonoma, California; Phillip S. Hodges and Cathy Hodges, Johns Creek, GA; son and companion, David L. Hodges and Carol Underwood, Cornelia, GA; sister, Betty D'Amico, Miami, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Jo Lewis, Jacksonville, FL; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; & numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.



A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Clarkesville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jan Devereaux, Rev. Phil DeMore, and Rev. Rick Price officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.



A family service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Mitchell, Georgia with her grandson, Thomas L. Hodges, IV officiating. Interment will follow in the Mitchell City Cemetery.
