Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2011at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church for Irene (Renie) Elrod who passed away June 3, 2011 following a period of declining health. The Rev. Steve Baker and Rev. Dean Bryant will officiate. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Miss Elrod will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour.
A Gainesville native, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Minnie Elliott Elrod. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters, Effie Elrod, Ruby Farr and brother Roy Elrod.
She was the oldest member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she had taught the Bible through Sunday school to many people in the community.
She is survived by her sister, Thelma Little of Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Wima and Warren Caphton of Savannah; brother-in-law, Roy Farr of Gainesville; numerous nieces and nephews; special caregivers, Montine Adams, Krissi Farr, Sue Reidling, Dana Russell and Tammy Norris.
