James E. Hicks

God called Mr. James E. Hicks age 71 of Nicholson, GA home on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Mr. Hicks was born in Jackson County on October 23, 1939. He moved to Nicholson about 26 years ago. Mr. Hicks is preceded in death by his father; Bill Hicks, son; Jimmy Hicks, and brother; Gene Hicks. Mr. Hicks retired from the City of Monroe and was a prior deacon of the Congregational Holiness Church of Monroe. He lived life for God, family, and friends. He never met a stranger and was known for his big heart and fun loving humor. He enjoyed gospel music, working in his garden, and waving to his neighbors from his front porch. Nicholson is a little dimmer without his smiling face.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife of 53 years Nora Ann Hicks of Nicholson, mother; Irene Hicks of Monroe, daughters and sons; Annette and Telo Kilby of Atlanta, Jamie and Connie Hicks of Monroe, Tim and Kathy Hicks of Nicholson, grandchildren; James and Christy Spurgeon of TX, Mandy and Tyrone Sloan of Monroe, Amy Hicks of Monroe, Beth and Jesse Hicks of Nicholson, and Sam Pardon of Nicholson, and seven great grandchildren, siblings; Sandi and Sandra Hicks of Loganville, Pat and Doug McDaniel of Winder, George and Diane Hicks of Gratis, and Roger and Nancy Hicks of Monroe, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 27 at 2 PM Nicholson Baptist Church with the Rev. Janie Autry and Rev. Lanier Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.
