Elizabeth "Liz" Sanford

Elizabeth "Liz" Sanford, 73, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday May 15, 2011 at Northside Forsyth Hospital.

Born March 2, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Homer and Gertie Summerour, she lived most of her life in Dawson County. A devoted mother and grandmother, Mrs. Sanford retired from Tyson Foods after 26 years of service and was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Summerour, and brothers, Jim Summerour, Marcus Summerour, and William Summerour.

Surviving are her husband, Ray Sanford, Dawsonville; children, Judy and Phil Anderson, Dawsonville, Jenny and Scott Mason, Gainesville, Trish and Steve Samples, Cumming, Daniel Sanford, Gainesville, Gertie and Rory Puckett, Dawsonville, Stephen and April Sanford, Dawsonville; sisters, Martha Jo Rush, Chattanooga, TN, Mattie Summerour, Atlanta, Dolores Summerour, California, Jan Oakley, Atlanta; brother, Cecil Summerour, Dawsonville; nine grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 18, 2011 at 2 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Rodney Pilcher and Rev. Corey Ray will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 until 9 at the funeral home.
