Larry Daniel "Luke" Martin

Larry Daniel "Luke" Martin, 62, of Dawsonville went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday April 26, 2011 at his residence following a short illness.

Born January 20, 1949 to the late Marvin Daniel and Geraldine Pugh Martin, he spent most of his life living in Dawson County. Luke was a U. S. Army veteran of Viet Nam and after serving in the military he worked for General Motors for nine years before retiring after becoming disabled with Guillain Barre Syndrome. He married Anne Spivey in 1973 and they lived in Dawson County for 38 years. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, reading and spending time with his two grandsons. Luke was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Anne Martin, Dawsonville; daughter, Misty Leann Martin Caldwell, Dawsonville; son, Kevin Daniel Martin, Dawsonville; sister and brother in law, Joann and Lloyd Crane, Dawsonville; grandsons, Tyler Thomas Caldwell, Tanner Luke Caldwell; and three very special nieces and nephews, Lisa and Jeff Perry, Tina and Frank Brown, Dena and Brady Lebaron, all of Dawsonville; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Friday April 29, 2011 at 2 o'clock at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Mitchell Rickett, Rev. Stephen Davis and Rev. Ruel Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 9 and Thursday from 12 noon until 9 at the funeral home.
