Evia Jackson Thomas, 101, of Dahlonega passed away Friday April 22, 2011 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born April 1, 1910 in Union County to the late Fate and Nora Jackson, she had lived in Lumpkin County for the past 6 years having moved from Lilburn. A homemaker at her death, she was married to the late Rev. Loy Thomas for 58 years where she was dedicated to his ministry while he served as pastor of 10 churches in the North Georgia area. Mrs. Thomas was also preceded in death by her sisters, Carrie Aiken, Bulah Jackson; and brothers, Carl Jackson and Max Jackson.
Surviving are her son and daughter in law, Wayne and Verdell Thomas, Ellijay; sisters, Fannie Mae Robinson, Douglasville, Thelma L. Cope, Dalton, Maxine Bryson, Nicholesville; brother, Ray Jackson, Chatsworth; grandchildren, Jeff and Pam Thomas, Lilburn, Keith and Cerena Thomas, Dahlonega; great grandchildren, Christy Thomas, Katlin Sims, Josh Thomas, Carissa Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Laura Thomas; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 27, 2011 at 11 o'clock at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. Dr. Jim Gaines will officiate. Interment will follow in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Young Harris, GA at 3 o'clock.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 at the funeral home.
