Joel Kite, age 72 of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Kite was born October 31, 1938 in Atlanta to the late Mary Corine Whitmire and Willie Paul Kite. He was a Veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Kite was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland and a former deacon of First Baptist Church of Hapeville. He was a 30 year retiree from Delta Airlines and a member of the Delta Photography Club as well as a former member of the Hapeville Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his daughter Nancy Kite, brother Tony Kite and sister Ruth Jackson.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Henrietta Kite, Cleveland; son, David Kite, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Terry Durden, Stockbridge; Becky and Gary Walenda, Fort Belvoior, VA; grandchildren, Janie Walenda, Joshua Walenda, Caleb Walenda, Christian Durden; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Roxann and Jim Ballenger, Bowden; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Sharon Thompson, Forest Park; four nieces and several great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are scheduled for 6:00 PM Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home in Cleveland. Dr. T. Mike Davis and Rev. Ken Jones will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
