Jerry Free Hefner

Obituary Date: Friday, April 15, 2011
Memorial services for Jerry Free Hefner, age 68, of Clarkesville will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 6:00 PM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Trent Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 17, 2011 from 6-8 PM.

Mr. Hefner passed away Friday, April 15, 2011 at Emory University Hospital.

Born in Habersham County on July 8, 1942, Mr. Hefner was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Paul Hefner. Mr. Hefner was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church and he was a United States Army Veteran having served in Germany during the Vietnam era. Jerry worked as lumber yard manager at Northeast Georgia Building and Home Center. Jerry was also an expert shoe cobbler and worked for the Country Cobbler for many years. Mr. Hefner was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans Habersham Guard Camp 716 and he was a member of the Brotherhood of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Hefner is preceded in death by sister Mary Ellen Hefner and brother Phillip Hefner.

Survivors include his wife Tami Mitchell Hefner of Clarkesville, son Daniel Scott Hefner and Jayne Yearwood of Cornelia, daughter Amy Elizabeth Hefner Callahan of Clarkesville, sister JoAnn Harris of Cartersville, brother Larry Hefner of Watkinsville, sister in law and brother in law Vici and Stanley Payne of Bogart, brothers in law and sisters in law Jack and Linda Mitchell of Athens and Dan and Carla Mitchell of Georgia, and granddaughter Bella Callahan.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Habersham County Food Bank or to Gideons International.
