Roy Herman Crowe

Obituary Date: Sunday, March 27, 2011
Mr. Roy Herman Crowe passed away at Bell Minor Nursing Home after an extended illness on Sunday March 27, 2011. He was born March 17, 1922 in Habersham County, Cornelia, Georgia. His late father and mother were Mr. Will Crowe and Karen Kimsey Crowe.

His Funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 29, in the Ward's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Earl Pirkle and Rev. Freddie Crowe will officiate. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Crowe served in the Army from November 18, 1940 to May 14, 1945. He was honored with a purple heart and several other medals. He was employed at Piedmont Drug Store for 27 years. He was a member of the Bob Russell Sunday School Class where he was the president for many years. He was a faithful member and deacon of Central Baptist Church where he was "Jack of all Trades." He loved his church and loved to drive the church bus, especially to take seniors on trips. He also liked music and liked to go to the nursing home to sing. He was a collector of clocks; at his death he had 56 in his bedroom and many more all over the house.

Mr. Crowe is preceded in death by his Wife Mary Greenway Crowe and his daughter Karen Crowe, his parents, Sister Grace Ayers, Brothers Fred Crowe, Ralph Crowe and Hoyt Crowe.

Survivors include special nieces Linda Smith and Carolyn Cape, Special Nephew Freddie Crowe, Sisters-in-law Ruby Greenway and Louise Allison and several other nieces and nephews. His is also survived by "best friend" and caretaker Grace Tidwell and devoted caretakers, like family, Mary Thomas, Mary Malone and Paula Corvo.
