Julia Throckmorton Walker

Little & Davenport Funeral Home announces the death of Julia "Judy" Throckmorton Walker, 82, of Gainesville on March 24th, 2011.

Ms. Walker is preceded in death by her parents Thomas Woodbury Throckmorton and Mattie Lee Farrow Throckmorton, and her sister, Margaret Caffey Wells.

She is survived by her four children; daughter Lane Hutchins (Hutch) of Augusta, GA, daughter Becky Bedford (Tom) of Dallas, TX; son Chris Walker (Kay), daughter Julie Hartley (Dan) both of Gainesville, GA; ten grandchildren Julianna Hutchins, Julian Hutchins, Mary Beth Hutchins, Steve Bedford, Christy Bedford Qualle (Micah), Tim Bedford (Tona), Kit Walker IV, Reese Walker, Brandon Hartley, Olivia Hartley; one great grandchild Jack Bedford, and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Walker was a native of Guntersville, AL. She attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, TN and the University of Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She lived in Atlanta, GA, Denver, CO, and Fort Benning, GA before moving to Gainesville where she lived for 55 years. After raising her family, she worked for Mayhill Homes and later Walden and Crowe Accountants. She joined First Presbyterian Church soon after moving to Gainesville and was active in Presbyterian Women for many years, serving terms as Treasurer and Vice President. After retiring, she became active in several ministries including Wonderful Works, Puppet Team, Webster Library Guild and volunteering as a part time receptionist. Ms. Walker was a former member of the Gainesville Junior Service League where she pioneered a volunteer position for typing Braille textbooks and other reading materials for the blind.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday March 27th, 2011 at Little and Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Monday March 28th, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Webster Library c/o First Presbyterian Church 800 South Enota Dr. Gainesville, GA 30501 or Ga. Academy for the Blind Student Fund 2895 Vineville Ave., Macon, GA 31204. Please note Julia T. Walker on the memo line.
