Wiley James Dougherty

Obituary Date: Friday, March 18, 2011
Funeral services will be held Sunday March 20, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Ward's Funeral Home Chapel for Wiley James Dougherty, 77, of Gainesville.

Rev. Danny Jones and Rev. Tony Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at Wards Funeral Home from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm and 6:00 pm-8:00 pm.

Mr. Dougherty was born in Forsyth County and was the oldest of 7 children; he had lived most of his life in Hall County. He was the son of the late Tom and Eva Lou Grant Dougherty. He served in the U.S.Army from 1956-1958 and also served in the Reserves for 4 years. He retired from Nix Septic Tank Company with 30 years of service, and was co-owner of Millie's Drapery until 1980. Mr. Dougherty loved Ford Motor products and could fix anything on them; he loved gospel and bluegrass music. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, was a member of Northlake Baptist Church and Hearts Aglo Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by a brother Billy Dougherty.

Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years Mildred Clark Dougherty of Gainesville; son Tommy Dougherty of Gainesville; son & daughter-in-law Ben & Vicki Dougherty of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law Gail & Tom Duggan of Washington, GA; brother David Dougherty of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law Donald & Brenda Dougherty of Gainesville; sisters and brothers-in-law Shirley & Jim Robinson, Brenda & Sam Harris of Gainesville, sister Thelma Russell of Gainesville, grandchildren Katie, Elizabeth, and Thomas Duggan, Camille, Kalen, Faith and Grace Dougherty, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Maxine Clark, Pauline Clark, Mary Clark, Amos and Louise Clark, Lt. Col. Joseph and Norell Clark, sitters Bunice Whitehead and Jack Graham and a number of other relatives.
