Arthur Freeman Fry

Arthur Freeman Fry, age 85 of Clarkesville, GA, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at his residence.

Born in Habersham County on June 17, 1925, he was the son of the late George Kytle and Wilda McClellan Fry. Mr. Fry was a retired Chef supervisor with North Georgia Technical School with 34 years of service.

He was WWII U.S. Army veteran having served in the 39-3RD Infantry Regiment 99th Infantry Division 1st Army from June 1944 until January 1945. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Fry was a member of the VFW Post #7720, Woodmen of the World Lodge 143 and was a volunteer with The Soup Kitchen.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Fry was preceded in death by his first wife Daisy Iva Lee Dean Fry, five brothers, Dillard, Levo, Alvin, Osco and Calvo Fry, two sisters, Connice McEntire and Beulah Bannon.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel Ray Fry of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Jeannie Fry of Loganville, GA and Joe Fry of Clarkesville, GA; four daughters and sons-in-law, Francesca and Kenneth Franklin of Turnerville, GA, Shirley and Nate Marple of Mt. Airy, GA, Gail and Bill Knecht of Kennesaw, GA, and Jewell and Ronnie Hutto of Lawrenceville, GA; two step-sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim and Linda Turner of Fairfax Station, VA, and Phillip Barber of Clarkesville, GA; one step-daughter, Rhea Scribner of Cornelia, GA; sister, Thelma Nix of Clarkesville;19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, five step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Dr. Kenneth Franklin, Rev. Billy Harris and Rev. Leon Miller officiating.

Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 pm on Thursday.

The Deacons of Macedonia Baptist Church are requested to serve as honorary escort.
