Robert Hayes Foy

Reverend Robert Hayes Foy, 87, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his residence following a short illness.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 25, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home North-Riverside Chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of First Baptist Church, Gainesville. Dr. Bill Coates and Reverend Jeff Thompson will officiate.

Reverend Foy was born March 27, 1923 in Auguilla, Mississippi to the late Walter and Artie Bell McNeer Foy. He graduated from Mississippi College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Robert served as pastor of churches in Cruger, DeKalb, and Pelahatchie, Mississippi. He and his family moved to Cornelia, Georgia in 1967 to continue his ministry as Chaplain at Georgia Industrial Institute in Alto, Georgia. Chaplain Foy was instrumental in changing the lives of many young men as the Director of the First Offender Program. The work as Chaplain continued at Walker Correctional Institute until his retirement in 1989. Later in life he participated in studies at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Georgia. The calling Robert had led him to volunteer as a Chaplain at Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he received great joy fulfillment ministering to the patients and their families. Robert was blessed to be a member of First Baptist Church Gainesville.

Reverend Foy is survived by his wife, Jessica Foy of Gainesville, daughters, Ann (Randy) Lewallen of Baldwin; Barbara (Doug) Gleger of Lake land, Florida; Carol Robinson of Cornelia; son, Myron (Karen) Foy of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Satin (Jeremy) Waller of Dallas, Georgia; Katie Robinson; Ryan Robinson of Cornelia, Georgia; great grandchildren, Reagan Waller of Dallas, Georgia.
