Robert Taylor Burke, Jr.

Funeral services for Rev. Robert Taylor Burke, Jr., age 65 of Clarkesville will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from the Stonepile Baptist Church. Rev. John Humphries, Rev. Verner London, Rev. Connie Berry, and Rev. Charles Webb will officiate with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery.

Rev. Burke passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on February 26, 1945 Rev. Burke was the son of the late Robert T. and Louise Holcomb Burke, Sr. After attending Habersham Mills Elementary and graduating from North Habersham High School, Bobby attended the University of Georgia where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. Rev. Burke was ordained as a Baptist Minister in 1978 and he preached at many churches through the years including Upper Hightower Baptist, Amy's Creek Baptist, Chattahoochee Baptist, Flat Creek Baptist, Leatherwood Baptist, Good News Baptist, Bethel Baptist, and Stonepile Baptist Churches. Rev. Burke was a farmer and he also owned and operated Burke and Sons with his sons Taylor and Chris. In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his father in law A. E. Mize, Jr., brother in law Charles Wikle, and nephew Mitchell "Mickey" Burke

Survivors include his wife of 43 years Joan Mize Burke of Clarkesville, sons and daughters in law Taylor Kelby and Karen Irvin Burke of Clarkesville and Robert Christopher and Heidi Ledford Burke of Clarkesville, and grandchildren James Stapleton, Lindsey Burke, Brady Burke, Tanner McAllister, Ansley McAllister, Emma Rae Burke, and Jazlyn Burke.
