Wanda Huff Whitfield

Wanda Huff Whitfield, 83, died February 9, 2011, at her home in Dahlonega, Georgia. Her loving family was at her bedside. She was born in Flo, Kentucky and lived many years in Harlan, Kentucky where she married and raised her family. In 1980, she moved with her husband, Bryan W. Whitfield III, to Dahlonega, Georgia.

She was a devoted wife and mother who spent years serving as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout leader and assisted in her children's many activities. She was an avid reader and gardener and enjoyed traveling in the States as well as abroad. While living in Harlan, she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. After moving to Dahlonega, she and her husband were among the founding members of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bryan W. Whitfield III, her parents, Elmer Grant Huff and Melissa Brown Huff, her sister, Gerri Huff Stoner and her brother Maj. Donald K. Huff.

She is survived by her four children, Clay Whitfield Poe (and husband Alan), of Centennial, Colorado, Bryan W. Whitfield IV (and wife Dr. Donna,) of Dahlonega, Georgia, Amme Keyes Whitfield, of Sandy Springs, Georgia and John Bradley Whitfield, of Lexington, South Carolina. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, David Poe of Boulder, Colorado, Rachel Poe of Centennial, Colorado, Bryan Whitfield VI (and wife Katee,) of Savannah, Georgia, Nathan Whitfield and William Whitfield of Dahlonega, Georgia, Melissa Whitfield and Michelle Whitfield of Lexington, South Carolina. She is also survived by one sister, Joan Huff Vandersip (and husband Cliff,) of Chesapeake, Virginia, one brother Gayle Huff (and wife Jeniene,) of Harlan, Kentucky, sister-in-law, Joyce Chappel Whitfield, of Knoxville, Tennessee, a special God child, Sheila Stoner, of Concord, North Carolina and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services are scheduled for February 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, Dahlonega, Georgia. Rev. Albert Daviou will officiate and burial will follow at Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Friday February 11, 2011 from 7 PM until 9 PM.
