Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. James Vernon (Jim) George Sr. age 78 of Cleveland. Mr. George passed away Tuesday, February 01, 2011 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 5, 2011 from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with the Rev. Rev. Robert Smith officiating.
Mr. George was born in Caldwell, New Jersey on February 11, 1932. He served with honor in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following his military career, Mr. George worked with the Norfolk, Virginia Police Department and was responsible for the development of their K9 Unit, later he worked in the construction industry. After moving to White County Mr. George worked with Cleveland Builders Supply and was a member of the White County Fire Department attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He was a lifetime member of the UDT Seals Association as well as the American Legion.
Mr. George is preceded in dearth by his son, James Vernon George Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Susan George, Cleveland; son, Glen David George, Cleveland; daughters and sons in law, Tammy and Gary Olsen, Cleveland; Cheryl George and Don Etheridge of Mableton; step son, Kenneth Fritz III of Kennesaw; step sons and daughters in law , Timothy and Kiyoko Fritz of Canton; Bradley and Alice Ann Fritz of Auburn, New York.
Grandchildren, Christie Ballard, Jennifer George, Amber George, Cheryl Lynch, Haley Olsen, Sean Fritz, Renee Toolsie and Melissa Toolsie; great granddaughter, Kayla George
