Mary Eleanor Smith

Mary Eleanor Smith, 85, of Gainesville, died Monday, January 24, 2011, following a brief illness. Born in Hall County, on November 1, 1925 she was the daughter of the late W.F. and Amanda Lou Hulsey Chandler. She was retired from Belk's with 20 years of service. She was a charter member of Lakewood Baptist Church.



She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Milton Smith; sister, Elizabeth Cash and niece, Beth Cash Cope.



Survivors include her daughter; Martha A. Smith of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law; Shirley and Lyle Mitchell of Birmingham, AL, brother; Bill Chandler of Clermont, grandchildren; Ryan and Lauren Daniel of Birmingham, AL and Kyle and Don Ryan of Gadsden, AL, great-grandchildren; Kathryn, Donnie and Amelia Grace Ryan, Drew and Reese Daniel, niece and husband; Luanne and John Cape of Clermont, niece, Dyann McGarry, nephews; Tom Chandler and John Chandler and numerous other relatives and friends.



In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lakewood Baptist Church Building Fund 2235 Thompson Bridge Rd, Gainesville, GA 30501.



A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Tom Smiley and Rev. Jerry Gill will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
