William Henry "Edwin" Elliott

William Henry "Edwin" Elliott was born June 18, 1922 in Dawson County, GA and moved to Hall County at age 9.
Edwin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 14, joined Chestatee Baptist Church and was baptized by Rev. Anglin. He was the oldest member of Chestatee Baptist Church.
Edwin married the "Love of his life" Thelma Pirkle Elliott on October 17, 1942. He was drafted into the Army during World War II, departing from home on October 29, 1942, along with his brother, Eston. Edwin was first sent to Camp Beale, CA for 12 months, then to Camp Bourie in Texas for 7 months. He became very sick and was discharged from Camp Bourie with Honorable Discharge on July 7, 1944.
Edwin became self-employed as a farmer and ran a "Shaving Hauling" Business serving the Poultry Farmers in Hall County and surrounding counties. He is also a retired Hall County School Bus Driver with 25 years of service. In his School Bus Driving Career Edwin had the Blessed opportunity to mentor & touch the lives of many young boys and girls who loved him and he loved his students.
Edwin was an Avid Sportsman, living, enjoying and loving life itself. He had a personality of wit, humor and laughter. He respected his fellow man, always trying to help others and lending a helping hand.
Edwin was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Thelma Pirkle Elliott; a Great grandson, Grant Ferguson; Parents, Thomas Leonard, Sr. & Izzie Stowers Elliott; Sister, Claudine Skinner; and Brothers, Clifton, T.L. Jr., Eston, Leary & Ivan Elliott.
Edwin is survived by: Son & Daughter-in-law, Everett & Beth Elliott and Daughter & Son-in-law, Tricia & Larry Terrill, all of Gainesville, GA; four Granddaughters: Denise Elliott, Cindy & Ron Gossett, Angie & Richard Ferguson and Tiffany & James Martin; nine Great Grandchildren: Will & Wesley Gossett, Rylan & Ashlyn Ferguson, Luke, Tyler & Katelyn Martin; Brother & Sister-in-law, Walter & Wanda Elliott and Sisters-in-law Maevilene & Kadean Pirkle. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and a church family he loved as family.
A special "Thank You" no words can express to his wonderful Care Givers, Bobbi Coon, Virginia Brewster, Sherri Mahanadally (from Trinidad) and Thelma Russell.
In his own words and what he taught his children: "When it is time to make the crossing to our Real Home in Heaven, all you will have to leave behind in This Life is a "Good Name".
Edwin certainly accomplished his full purpose in "This Life" and is now enjoying a "Heavenly Welcome Home Celebration".
Service will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Chestatee Baptist Church with Rev. David Skinner, Rev. Cecil Reeves and Rev. Marvin Bearden officiating, with the body lying in state from 10:30 until service time. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 3-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.
