Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2011
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday January 21, 2011 in Wards Funeral Home Chapel for Mr. Jimmie Brown, 76, of Gainesville. Rev. Melvin Baugh will be officiating. Burial will be in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6pm-9pm at the funeral home. Mr. Brown passed away Tuesday January 18, 2011.
Mr. Brown was born in Hall County and was the son of the late Robert Vestel Brown and Ruby Lee Tanner Brown. Mr. Brown was a Veteran serving 21 years in the U.S. Marines. During the Viet Nam War he served in Interrogation and Translation, and was able to speak Cambodian and Vietnamese languages, he also could speak Spanish.
He received many decorations while serving in the U.S. Marines including National Defense Service Medal , Good Conduct Medal with 5 stars , Vietnamese Service Medal with 4 stars , Vietnamese Campaign Medal with devise , Vietnamese Cross of Galentry with palm , Presidential Unit Citation with 1 star, Combat Action Ribbon , Navy Unit Commendation , Bronze Star Medal with "V" , Meritorious Mast . Mr. Brown loved his Country and most of all was proud to be a U.S. Marine. After retiring from the military he worked for S K F USA, Inc. in Flowery Branch. He dearly loved his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Brown was a member of Whitehall Baptist Church.
Survivors are Wife Bonnie Brown, of Gainesville , Daughters and Sons-in-law, Rhonda & Cary Browning, Jr. of Lula , Wanda & Roger Baugh of Gillsville, Sisters Geneva Anglin of Gainesville, Carolyn Baugh of Lula , Sisters & Brothers-in-law Jerry & Sam Lewis of Gainesville, Margie & James Willis of Gainesville , Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law Grace Baugh of Lula , Estelle Polifka of Lula , Ethel Wallace of Gainesville , Joe & Betty Jo Kerby of Gainesville , Grandchildren Jeremy & Mary Browning of Lawrenceville , Jason & Brandi Browning of Gainesville ,Amanda Browning of Lula , Great Grandchildren John & Joseph Browning of Lawrenceville, Jadon Browning and Madi Browning of Gainesville .
