Helen L. Purdy Vinson

Helen L. Purdy Vinson, age 82, of Buford, Georgia, formerly of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Vinson was born on March 26, 1928, in Habersham County, Georgia to the late Roy Atlas and Lillian Shirley Purdy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Vinson and brothers, Garnett Purdy and Leonard Purdy, Sr. Mrs. Vinson was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She attended Baldwin Church of God.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Eloise and Tony Reed, Clarkesville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Sandra Vinson, Buford, GA; sisters, Jeanette Flournoy, Groves, TX, Imogene Trotter, Cornelia, GA, and Dorothy Kimbrell, Mt. Airy, GA; brother, Leroy Purdy, Beaumont, TX; 4 grandchildren, Kevin Reed, Scott Reed, Jonathan Vinson, and Miranda Liddle; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Paris Whitworth and Mr. Jonathan Vinson officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
