Marian Brock Jones

Mrs. Marian Brock Jones, 81 of Gainesville passed away Peacefully Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Community.

Mrs. Jones was born in Hall County, Georgia on January 14, 1930 and was a lifetime resident. She was the daughter of the late Nellie Buffington and Benjamin Lamar Brock. At a young age, she joined Dunagan Chapel United Methodist Church and served as a devoted and active member throughout most of her life. Mrs. Jones served as Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer of the Church and United Methodist Women for over 40 years.

Mrs. Jones managed the women's apparel store Diana Shops in historic downtown Gainesville for almost 40 years. After retiring from Diana Shops, she was employed part-time for several years at Saul's Women's Apparel, also in downtown Gainesville. Mrs. Jones spent her life serving God and others, attending church, and spending time with family.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Chester Jones; sister Winnie Brock Poole; brother-in-law Acie L. Griffin; and niece Ouida Griffin Adams. She is survived by her sister Mrs. Carolyn Griffin, Gillsville; brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Mary Ann Brock, Gainesville; Earl and Pauline Brock, Gainesville; Brother-in-law, Bobby Poole, Gainesville; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel. The Reverend Dennis Short will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dunagan Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel.
