Robert O. Lewis

Robert O Lewis, 91, passed away peacefully on January 08; 2011. Bob was born in Indianaplois and , grew up in Atlanta. He Graduated from Boys High in 1937and from UGA in 1941,. His first love was flying, starting with a flying group during college. Before the US entered the war, he taught RAF pilots in Americus, GA. He joined the Air force in 1942. As a MATS pilot, he ferried B-25's and other aircraft from Miami to Corsica then to the front. After the war, he flew for Delta Air lines for 33 years, retiring in 1979. He met his first wife, Frances Roberts Baskin, in 1948. They went together until both Frances' children, Larry and Jimmy, were grown. She and Bob married in 1960 and traveled the world together until her death in 1997. In 2002, Bob met and married his second wife, Mary Sanders Calhoun. They were together constantly until his death.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Ruth Reif Lewis, and his sister, Ruth Elizabeth Harmon. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lewis and her daughter, Mary Ann Calhoun and her husband Scott Francis, two step sons: Larry Baskin and his wife Shirley and Jimmy Baskin and his wife Kaye, five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday January 13, 2011 at 3:30 PM from the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Reverend Gary Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday.
