Katherine Perryman Andrews

Mrs. Katherine Perryman Andrews, age 83 of Gainesville, GA, died Monday January 3, 2011 following an extended illness. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Algernon Jones Perryman and Clara Spivey Perryman of Talbotton, GA, husband Robert Edge 'Bob' Andrews, Sr. of Gainesville, GA, sister, Mrs. Jone Perryman Wright and husband Dan Wright of Auburn, AL, and cousin Jane Spivey Shepard and husband William Chipman 'Shep' Shepard of Covington, GA.


Mrs. Andrews is survived by two sons; Robert Edge Andrews, Jr. and wife Jan of Gainesville, GA, son Jones Perryman Andrews and wife Gigi of Gainesville, GA, and one daughter; Clara Andrews Anderson and husband Ben of Columbus, GA. Other surviving relatives include nephew Dan Wright and wife Kimberly Wright of Atlanta, GA, first cousin Ellie Belle Decker and husband James Decker of Burlington, VT, and very special friends Lillie Dukes and Joyce Tate of Gainesville, GA.

Mrs. Andrews was born in Columbus, GA, and grew up and attended public school in Talbotton, GA. She attended Shorter College in Rome, GA, and graduated with a degree in education from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. She taught elementary school in Newnan, GA, and after marrying her college sweetheart and love of her life, the late Robert Edge 'Bob' Andrews, Sr., she taught at Candler Street Elementary School in Gainesville, GA in the 1950's before becoming a homemaker. Some of her most prized possessions were notes and letters from her former students. Katherine and Robert Andrews made a home together in Gainesville, GA for 53 loving years. Mrs. Andrews was very active in the community as a member of the Gainesville Junior Service League, a founding Northeast Georgia Medical Center 'Pink Lady' volunteer, a member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church, and a charter member of Chattahoochee Country Club. Her hobbies included family, faith, friends, writing, planting, reading poetry, and appreciating all things beautiful. Known for her belief in friends and her kind, gentle nature, Mrs. Andrews enjoyed a storied life and lived each moment to it fullest according to God's word. She was the essence of the word "lady" and impeccably proper. Her attentive nature helped others radiate goodness, she always did what she could to make people's lives brighter, she was the very best mother and devoted wife, and she was an inspiration to all believing only the best in those around her while quietly helping those in need. Katherine Perryman Andrews personified the best a person can be, and she was exceptional in every way. Hers was a truly original, wonderful and lovely soul.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday January 5, 2011 from 12pm-2pm at Mason Ward Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at 2:30pm at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, or Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
