Dana Sue McFee West
Obituary Date: Thursday, December 30, 2010
Dana Sue McFee West passed away painlessly in her sleep early in the morning of December 30th, 2010. She was in West Virginia visiting some of her many grandchildren and was very happy all her last days. She was born to Jim and Beth McFee on March 25th, 1944 while her Daddy was away piloting a B-17 out of England during WWII. Her younger brother David preceded her in death but she is survived by her younger sisters Jeanne and Mary. She met her husband, Carlton T. "Bud" West, shortly before he graduated from the US Air Force Academy while she was attending Colorado College. They were married December 26th, 1963. Always a proponent of education, she finished earning her bachelor's degree and graduated from LSU-Shreveport after her sons Brian and Craig were born. A few years later she graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's School of Law with her husband, and they practiced law together for many years. She was intensely proud of her boys and was a major reason for their graduating from the US Military Academy at West Point and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), respectively. Brian practices medicine in West Virginia and serves in the Army National Guard. Craig is a technical writer for Samsung in California. She was a loving and devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother; so much so that both her daughters-in-law call her "Mom" and mean it. Her bright intellect, quick wit, direct honesty, and warm heart will be missed. Funeral services will be at Bud's hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia on January 4th, 2011 at 2:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Dahlonega. Bishop Robert Weischedel will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega, Ga. She will be interred at her hometown of Atwood, Kansas on January 7th, 2011. Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of arrangements.
