Garry David Smith, age 60 of Alto, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at his residence. Born in Williamson, West Virginia on March 30, 1950, he was the son of the late Robert and Jean Cavlier Smith. He was formally a detention officer with Hall County Corrections and was of the Christian faith. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and he enjoyed drawing. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, David Garry Smith and daughter, Shelia Lynette Smith. Surviving are wife, Mildred Ann Smith of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Sheba & Brandon Lovell of Anderson, SC; daughter, Shelina Elizabeth Smith of Mt. Airy; daughter and fiancée, Kayla Titshaw & James Stafford of Alto; sons, Todd Davidson of Alto, Tommy Davidson of Cornelia and Bob Gosnell of the Hollingsworth Community; 12 grandchildren; aunt, Sarah Alred of Painesville, OH; also surviving are several niece and nephews.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Monday, December 27, 2010, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Danny Masters officiating. Interment will follow in the VFW Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 until the funeral hour.
