Vernon W. Risher

Vernon W. Risher, age 95, of Clarkesville, Georgia and formerly of Savannah passed away on Wednesday, December 08, 2010.



Mr. Risher was born in Round O, SC, on September 29, 1915, to the late Oren B. and Blanche Risher. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by wife, Elinor Marshall Risher, daughter, Ruth Risher, and a brother, Wallace Risher. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.



Mr. Risher was a member of Clarkesville First United Methodist Church and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He was a 1935 graduate of Young Harris College. Mr. Risher was a retired Major in the United States Marine Corp having served in World War II and the Koren Conflict. He was a Commanding Officer with the Savannah Regiment serving until his retirement. Mr. Risher was also a retired assistant Post Master with the Savannah, GA Post Office with 30 years of service. After his second retirement, he worked in real estate for a number of years. He and his late wife, Elinor actively participated in Square Dancing.

Survivors include daughters, Anne Risher Born and Mary Katherine Shuman, both of Clarkesville, GA; 4 grandchildren, Tony Born, Shannon Born Luikham, Audra Shuman and Jason Born; 6 great-grandchildren, Amber Payne, Caleb, Elijah, and Josiah Luikham, Courtney and Zach Born; 2 great-great-grandchildren and a special friend, Lillian O'Bryant.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Rick Price officiating. Interment will be held at the Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors, provided by the United States Marines.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.
