Carl Mathis

Mr. Carl Mathis, 97 of Gainesville died Wednesday November 24, 2010 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Forsyth County, Mr. Mathis had lived in Hall County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Henry and Azzie Westbrooks Mathis. Mr. Mathis was retired from the Hall County Sheriff's Department where he worked from 1956 until 1978, where he retired with the rank of captain. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Forsyth County.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law; Philip and Joan Mathis, Gainesville; sister, Fay Martin, Gainesville. A number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Mr. Mathis is preceded in death by his wife; Marguerite McClure Mathis; grandson, Jason Mathis; brothers, Dewey Mathis, Glenn Mathis, Candler Mathis, Claude Mathis and Charles Mathis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 28, 2010 in the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Larry Patton and the Rev. James Styles will officiate. Interment will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery with honors provided by the Hall County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday November 27, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
