Branson Edwin Welborn

Funeral services for Branson Edwin Welborn, age 92, of Mt. Airy, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Furman Lewis and the Rev. Tommy Stowe officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
Mr. Welborn died suddenly on November 20, 2010 at his residence.
Born February 9, 1918, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Horace and Delia King Welborn. Mr. Welborn served in the United States Army as First Sergeant of the 289th Signal Co., 3rd Brigade Amphibian Engineer during World War II. He graduated in 1950 from the University of Georgia with a degree in agriculture.
He retired in 1980 from the Production Credit Association in Habersham County. He continued to farm until losing his eyesight. In 2006, he was inducted into the Habersham County Agriculture Hall of Fame.
From Sunday School teacher to deacon, Mr. Welborn served many lay positions at Bethlehem Baptist Church. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years. Mr. Welborn was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jewell Rohletter Welborn.
Survivors include a sister, Marion Anderson of Blue Ridge; daughters and sons-in-law Elaine and Hershell Norris and Patricia and Phil Neeley, all of Mt. Airy; grandchildren Connie and Scott Scroggs, Julie and Lee Caudell, Doug and Deanna Norris, and Sam and Michelle Jameson; great-grandchildren Kyle and Rachel Chastain, Dustin Hardy, Ava Caudell, Thomas Caudell, Meg Massey, Maddy Massey, Anna Neeley, and Sophie Grace Neeley.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, November 25, 2010 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
