Billie Kinsey Brown

Billie Kinsey Brown age 81, 1111 Tarpley Lane , Watkinsville , GA. Died November 14, 2010. A Graveside Service will be held at Alta Vista Cemetery , on November 17 at 2:00 pm.

She was the daughter of the late Calvin Herbert Kinsey and
Flora Reid Kinsey of Hall County , GA. Billie was a native of New Holland, GA where she attended grammar school and graduated fromGainesville High School in 1946.
She attended Georgia Southern College in 1946-47 and later graduated from Perry Business College in Gainesville , GA. She was employed as secretary to a law firm in Gainesville in 1947-48, then as a bookkeeper and office manager in the business office of Truett-McConnel College in Cleveland , GA during 1948-49. In late 1949, Billie became office manager for the Life of Virginia Insurance Company in Gainesville . From August 1951 to May of 1954, Billie was secretary to Charles Smithgall and program director for WGGA Radio Station in Gainesville . Billie accompanied her husband to Harvard University and was employed by the Harvard Athletic Department as secretary and office manager for the Athletic Director. She was active in several student wives' organizations and became president of the Harvard Dames, a wife's social club, in 1956.

Billie was a mother and homemaker while living in College Station , Texas and was there from September of 1957 until June of 1960. She moved with her family to Athens , GA in July of 1960 when her husband accepted a position with the University of GA. Billie was active in several civic and University organizations. She served as president of the Athens Newcomer's Club in 1961-62 and a similar organization at UGA in 1962-63. She was a member of the University Women's Club from 1960-1972 and served as president during 1969-70. She served as a Girl Scout Leader in Oconee County from 1963-71.
Billie served as Librarian and Branch Manager for the Oconee County Libraries, a position she held until 1997. During her tenure, two libraries were built and the main library in Watkinsville , GA was renovated and doubled in size in 1996-1997. The population of Oconee County doubled in size during this time period. One of her many loves was the reading program for Oconee County children. Billie was a member of the Pilot Club of Athens and a volunteer worker at Athens Regional Medical Center during this time period. She retired as librarian in 1997, but continued to work part time for the Athens Regional Library in technical services and as liaison with the Franklin County Libraries.

She also made time to help care for her widowed mother from 1984-1995, and she found time to vacation in Europe, New Zealand , Australia and China .

She is survived by her husband Claud Brown, her daughter, Claudia Ann Parr and son-in-law, Darin Stuart Parr, Richmond, VA., a son, Scott V. Brown and daughter-in-law, Janet Wehring Brown, two granddaughters, Nicole and Tiffany Brown, Houston, TX., also, her brother, Charles H. Kinsey and sister-in-law, Carolyn Baxter Kinsey, Albuquerque , N.M. in addition to many nieces and nephews.
