Thomas Larry Whitley

Thomas Larry Whitley, age 66, of Demorest, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at his residence, following an extended illness.



Mr. Whitley was born on November 25, 1943, in Covington, Georgia to Olga Ruth "Mickie" Whitley of Conyers, Georgia and to the late Perry Whitley. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Lee Whitley. Mr. Whitley bravely served 9 years during the Vietnam Conflict in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged in 1972. After his military career, Mr. Whitley started his life's work designing, installing, and maintaining computer programs for several hospitals. He ended his career as an IT Manager with Navitor in Alto, Georgia. Mr. Whitley was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest, Georgia and served as a deacon. He also served as a former deacon of Decatur Heights Baptist Church.



Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Linda Akins Whitley, Demorest, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Heather and Kevin Ryan, Grayson, GA and Anne Marie and Jason Swanstrom, Snellville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra Jane and Mike Whisenant, Mansfield, GA; 2 grandchildren, William Joseph Ryan and Thomas Perry Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2010, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest, Georgia with Pastor Russ Barker and Pastor Lanny Richardson officiating. Burial will be held at Turner Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 3402 Turner Hill Road, Lithonia, GA 30038. All family and friends should meet at Turner Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Lithonia, Georgia at 3:00 p.m. for the interment.



The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.
