Gladine Culpepper Fulghum

Gladine Culpepper Fulghum, 87, of Abbeville passed away November 5, 2010 at Embracing Hospice following a short illness.

Mrs. Fulghum was born October 31, 1923 in Cordele, GA to the late Samuel and Leona Raines Culpepper and moved to Abbeville after marrying in 1946. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Crisp Fulghum. She attended Georgia Southern College and graduated from Georgia State College for Women. After teaching one year at East Crisp School, she devoted her time to homemaking, serving as editor of the Wilcox County Chronicle, and assisting her husband in the daily operation of the Fulghum Company, which consisted of a general store, cotton gin, and farms. She eventually returned to teaching at Abbeville Elementary School where she taught reading. An active member of Abbeville First Baptist Church, Mrs. Fulghum served as choir director for many years, in addition to her involvement with the WMU, the Euzelian Sunday School Class, and other church activities. She served on the Wilcox County Library Board for a number of years and was active in many other civic organizations.

Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Edith "Edie" and Clark Beusse, Dawsonville; grandson, Charles C. Beusse, Dawsonville; granddaughter, Emily K. Beusse, Dawsonville; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Monday November 8, 2010 at 11 o'clock at the Abbeville First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Stubbs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 on Sunday at Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wilcox County Arts Council, 420 Main St. W., Abbeville, GA 31001.
