Norman Frank Ficke

Norman Frank Ficke, age 94 of Gainesville, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Willowbrook Court Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 29, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Father Nicholas Azar will officiate.

Mr. Ficke was born August 12, 1916 in Chesterfield, Missouri to the late Grover Frank Ficke and Dolly Lee Devinney Ficke. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II for 5 ½ years as a Combat Pilot in the European Theatre participating in the Invasion of North African, Sicily, Italy and Normandy. Upon his returning to the United States, he met and married his wife, Frances Naikelis, also a veteran of World War II. Mr. Ficke, upon his completion of military service, was employed with General Motors, completing his 30 year career as an Executive Administrator for the Chevrolet Motor Division. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Gainesville. Norm was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be missed greatly by all his family.

Mr. Ficke is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Ficke, of Gainesville, son & daughter-in-law, Norman F. Jr. & Patricia Ficke of Gainesville, daughters & sons-in-laws, Lee Ann & Gary MacMillan of Gastonia, North Carolina and Lynn & Dr. Victor Wittkowski of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, grandchildren, Scott, Robin, Norman, III, Cristen, Mary Kate and Michael, great-grandchildren, Diego, Mia, Chase, Gavin and Hanna, sisters, Leone Dierberg, who just turned 100 years old in July and Dorothy Preiss, who will reach 99 years of age in February, both of St. Louis, Missouri.
