Margie Marie Free Canup

Funeral services for Margie Marie Free Canup, age 85, of Clarkesville, will be held Sunday, October 24, 2010, at 2:00 PM from Hillside Memorial Chapel. Rev. Ralph Smith and Rev. Bill Trotter will officiate with interment to follow the service in Stonepile Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, October 23, 2010, from 6-9 PM.

Mrs. Canup passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010.

Born in Rabun County on June 13, 1925, Mrs. Canup was the daughter of the late Lester L. and Manonia Gragg Free. Mrs. Canup was a member of Stonepile Baptist Church and she was a custodian for the ladies' dormitory at North Georgia Technical College. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Canup is preceded in death by her husband Herman Jackson Canup.

Survivors include daughters Diane Jackson of Lula, Ruth Matheson of Clarkesville, Barbara Bramlett of Toccoa, and Mary Canup McKee of Kokomo, Indiana, sons Herman Jackson Canup, Jr. of Clarkesville and Gary Lee Canup of Young Harris, brothers C.T. Free of Ft. Walton, Florida Homer Free and Nelson Free of Clarkesville, and Lester L. Free, Jr. of Kokomo, Indiana, sisters Jessie Tench, Bessie Groves, and Essie Goss of Clarkesville, Thelma Burton of Mt. Airy, and Anna Alexander of Martin, as well as 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
