James Glenn Martin

Mr. James Glenn Martin, 90 of Gainesville died Monday October 11, 2010 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

A life long resident of Hall County, Mr. Martin was the son of the late John Luther and Gaynell Harper Martin. He was retired from the John H. Harland Company in Atlanta where he worked as a lithographic designer. He also worked for a number of years for Georgia Printing and Matthews Printing in Gainesville.

Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army 456th AAA-AW Battalion, 3rd Army under the direction of General George S. Patton. While in service, Mr. Martin was involved in a number of battles at Ardennes, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. The battalion's war record in terms of enemy planes destroyed and
probably destroyed, was the best in the European conflict for some months after the invasion of Normandy.

Mr. Martin was a member of the Lakewood
Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Men's Bible & Fellowship Sunday School Class.Mr. Martin enjoyed gardening and wood working.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 68 1/2 years, Hazel Souther Martin, Gainesville; daughter, Glenda Martin Brassell, Gainesville; nephews and wives; Jimmy and Lynn Martin, Gainesville; Billy and Barbara Martin,
Cumming; neice and husband, Ann and David Hulsey, Gainesville; sisters-in-law; Bernice S. Moore, North Carolina, Nina S. Wilson of South
Carolina; uncle, Harold Harper, Baton Rouge, LA; nurses of Guardian Homecare, rebecca, Connie, and Jennifer; special caregivers, Danny Samples and Bobby and Gladys Samples; a number of other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Mr. Martin is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law; J.L. "Jake" and Mary Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 14, 2010 at the Lakewood Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Tom Smiley, Rev. Don Ormsbee, the Rev. Dr. Jerry Gill and Rev. Gene Brooks will officiate. Interment will
follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance. The family will receive friends at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Wednesday October 13, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00
p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
