Margaret Wilma Keel Wicker Yarbrough, 87 passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010 in Milledgeville, Georgia. Services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 2nd at First United Methodist Church 366 Log Cabin Rd., NE, Milledgeville, Georgia. A visitation will be hosted by the Marion Yarbrough family at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 4th with a services to follow at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Baptist Church at 624 Hwy 197 North, Clarkesville, Georgia, 30523.
Mrs. Margaret was born in Davisboro, Georgia on November 28, 1922. She was one of four children of the late Sarah Hattaway and Eddie Burr Keel. Margaret attended local public schools and graduated from Peabody High School and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville with a degree in Chemistry. She played trumpet in the college orchestra and participated on the synchronized swim team.
After graduating from college, she lived in Augusta and worked as a copy writer at WGAC. She met and married G. Stanley Wicker and they lived in Atlanta and Americus, Georgia; Washington, D.C.; Guntersville and Decatur, Alabama. While living in the nation's capital she worked as a Lab Technician at Walter Reed Hospital. Margaret was a championship golfer, winning many ladies' golf tournaments in Alabama and Georgia. She loved to swim, travel, and sing in the church choir. She was an energetic and fun loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, the late G. Stanley Wicker of Americus, Georgia, and a brother Eddie Burr Keel, Jr. of Milledgeville.
She is survived by her husband, Marion Yarbrough of Mt. Airy, Georgia; an aunt, Faye Hattaway Banks of Milledgeville, two sisters Myrtle Keel Tillman of Statesboro and Louise Keel Helton of Milledgeville; four children and two daughters in-law; Sarah Wicker Haughton of John's Creek, George S. Wicker, Jr. of Duluth and his wife Cynthia Delk Wicker, Ruth Wicker Helms of Woodstock and Wesley K. Wicker of Alpharetta, Georgia and his wife M. Kay Wicker, six grandchildren; Lauren Elizabeth Haughton, Kelly Louise Haughton, Robert Charles Haughton, III, Margaret Evelyn Wicker, Mary Elizabeth Wicker, and Margaret Madison Helms.
