Robert Herren Stanley

Robert Herren Stanley,70 of Gainesville, GA passed away on his 70th birthday at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center on September 16, 2010 after an extended illness. The body was cremated. Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Hewatt Stanley and Robert Herren Stanley, Sr.


He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Angela Allen Stanley, daughter, Haynes Stanley Kaufman, sister, Gloria Stanley, Atlanta, and grandsons Carr and Gus Kaufman.


Mr. Stanley was a native Atlantan who began his banking career with the C&S Trust Departments in Atlanta, Decatur, and Macon. Leaving Macon in in the late 70's for opportunities with Union Planters Bank in Memphis, the Stanley family was drawn back to Georgia for a banking position with 1st National Bank of Gainesville. Later transitioning to the insurance industry, Mr. Stanley was associated with Mass Mutual before becoming an independent agent.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Kiwanis and Chattahoochee Country Clubs. He was also a past board chairman of Share-A-Home and the Quinlan Visual Arts Center.

His love of life was evident to all who knew him-his sense of humor, delightful and his wit, incomparable. His passion was his yard where he spent many therapeutic and productive hours. His gifts were always those of service whether for family, friends, or sometimes even strangers. A gentleman and a scholar.


A memorial service will be celebrated on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church, Gainesville with visitation to follow in the Gathering Room.
