Robert "Bob" Adams

Obituary Date: Friday, September 3, 2010
Robert E. "Bob" Adams, age 85, of Gainesville, GA passed away peacefully at his residence Thursday, September 2, 2010 following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Bill Coates and Dr. Steve Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 pm in the Parlor of First Baptist Church.

Mr. Adams was born on November 15, 1924 to the late H.A. and Belle Wilson Adams of Athens, Ga. He graduated from Athens High School then attended the University of Georgia. He served his country in Italy for the US Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946. He continued his education at the University of Georgia receiving his degree in 1949. While working towards his degree, Bob worked with his father at Adams Transfer and Storage in Athens. He married Jo Ann Trapnell in 1947, relocating to Gainesville. Bob continued his fathers business, Adams Transfer and Storage, by opening his own in Gainesville, then in 1964 opened an Atlanta Office. Mr. Adams served as President of Georgia's Movers Association and received a lifetime achievement award. Bob joined the American Legion Post 7, serving as Commander from 1954-1955 and again 2000-2001. He was a member of Voiture 1317 of the Forty et Eight, serving as Grande Chef de Gare and was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. Mr. Adams was an active member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his Anglers Sunday School Class.

Mr. Adams is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jo Ann Adams of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Al and Pam Adams of Atlanta, daughter and son-in-law, Jane and John Hall of Macon, daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Brad Smith of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Betsy Adams of Gainesville, granddaughter, Dr. Margie (Cameron) Curry of Decatur, granddaughter, Virginia Adams of New York City, NY, granddaughter, Laura (John) Griffies of Sharpsburg, GA, grandson, Adam Dukes of Sullivans Island, SC, grandson, Ben Dukes of Atlanta, grandsons, Walker and Charlie Adams of Gainesville, grandson, Jonathan Smith of Augusta, granddaughter, Katelyn Smith of Gainesville, great granddaughters, Vivian Curry and Susanna Griffies, special friends, Beverly DeFevers and Cheri Martocchi who loved and will miss him dearly.
