John Phillip Wagner

John Phillip Wagner, age 53, of Flowery Branch, Georgia, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, August 27, 2010 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home. The Reverend Michael McCormack will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the funeral home.

Mr. Wagner was the son of Jeanette Grinde Wagner and the late Harley Wagner. John was a man who had a heart as big as he was. Standing at 6'9" he was known affectionately as "Big John". Born in Muscatine, Iowa, he spent most of his life in Neenah, Wisconsin. John graduated Neenah High School in 1975 and won a State Championship for basketball while at Neenah High. John came to us in 1986 residing in Flowery Branch until his death. Working for Publix his heart reached far beyond his co-workers and deep into the community. He was a brilliant chef, a beloved friend to many and gave more than he took. His passing leaves our community deeply saddened but forever grateful for the impact he has made.

Mr. Wagner is survived by his mother, Jeanette Wagner, Macomb, IL; son, Paul Wagner, Hahira, GA; daughter, Lydia Wagner, Pittsburgh, PA; brother, David Wagner, Milwaukee, WI; and a sister, Ann McCormack, Dahlonega.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Hi-Hope Service Center 882 Hi-Hope Road Lawrenceville, GA 30043.
