W.H. "Dub" Jones

Obituary Date: Wednesday, August 18, 2010
W.H. "Dub" Jones, age 85, of Douglas Drive, Gainesville, GA passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Jimmy Hope and Reverend Doyal Conley will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm and Friday, August 20, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Jones was born in Banks County on July 10, 1925. He graduated from Air Line High School and Piedmont College then went on to George Peabody College in Tennessee where he received an advanced degree in education. Dub was well known locally as an accomplished athlete in both Industrial League Baseball and Basketball. He was drafted into Minor League baseball by the Detroit Tigers. Dub married Louise Hopkins and they had five children- Duane, Dwight, Denise, Debra, and Dalva. He served in WW II in the Navy as a radio operator. After leaving the military Dub entered the field of education and was a teacher and coach at Riverbend, East Hall, and North Hall High Schools. After retirement, Dub served on the Hall County Board of Education. Louise Jones passed in 1991 and Dub married Geraldine Skinner who was his companion for the remainder of his life. Dub Jones was a community servant who never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife Geraldine Jones of Gainesville, Son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Julie Jones of Gainesville, son, Dwight Jones of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Chester Gibson of Murrayville, daughter and son-in-law Debra and Chip Smith of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Dalva and Sandra Jones of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jimmy Hope of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Joyce Skinner of Gainesville, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great
