Merrill Dill

Mrs. Merrill Owenby Dill, 83 of Gainesville died Wednesday July 21, 2010 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Lockhart, South Carolina, Mrs. Dill had lived in Gainesville since 1969. She was a former employee of Sears and had volunteered at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center for over 35 years. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and the Family Life Center at the First Baptist Church, where she also was a member. Mrs. Dill was a member of the Joy Sunday School class at First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Dill is preceded in death by her husband, William F. "Bill" Dill, and her parents, Burnett Carroll and Lois Estelle Hawkins Owenby.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law; Janice and Richard Ludwig, Gainesville; Joan and Gary Anderson, Oakwood; grandchildren,Caitlyn Ludwig,Gainesville; Brian and Jacqueline Woodcock, Decatur; Mark Anderson, Oakwood, Megan and Scott Cargile, Alto, Page Anderson, Oakwood, great grandchildren, Kendall, Abigail and Billie Kate Cargile, all of Alto. brother and sister-in-law; The Rev. B.C. "Carroll" and Marion Owenby, Dunn, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Bobbie Poole, Chester, South Carolina and a number of neices and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 24, 2010 in the chapel of the First Baptist Church on Green Street. The Rev. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. Interment will be in the Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor on Saturday July 24, 2010 from 10:00 a.m until 11:00 a.m.

Members of the Joy Sunday School class are asked to serve as honorary escorts and assemble at the church by 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Ministry of Caring or the Family Life Center at the First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street, Gainesville, Georgia 30501 or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Gainesville, Ga 30501.
