Wynk Hicks

Winnie Claire Murphy (Wynk) Hicks died on July 16 in her home in Clarkesville after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010, at 11:00 AM from the Clarkesville Baptist Church. Rev. Grady Walden and Rev. Jimmy Herweck will officiate with burial to follow the service in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 18, 2010, from 4-6 PM.

She was born on January 21, 1925, in Pendergrass, Ga., to Andrew and Nora Murphy and was the youngest of seven brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and three nephews.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. L.G. Hicks, Jr., daughters Murphy Henry and husband Bryan (Red) of Winchester, Va., Dr. Claire Hicks of Asheville, N.C., Argen Hicks and husband Mike Johnson of Clarkesville, Nancy Pate and husband Rad of Waxhaw, N.C., and Dr. Laurie Hicks and husband David Tanner of Charlotte, N.C.
