Virginia A. Abercrombie

Obituary Date: Monday, July 12, 2010
A precious and sweet soul responded to the call of her Lord and Savior Monday the 12th day of July 2010. Virginia Abercrombie is resting now in the arms of Jesus after a difficult and extended illness.



A native of Hall County, Mrs. Abercrombie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Abercrombie, her parents Ernest Anderson and Clara Anderson Martin as well as 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.



She leaves behind to celebrate her memory her loving daughters, Carol (Danny) Morton of Pensacola, FL, and Debbie (Clint) Sloan of Oakwood. Grandchildren, Amy Sloan (Jason) Bryan of Ft Knox, KY, Kelly Sloan of Oakwood, Andy (Jennifer) Sloan of Lawrenceville, Daniel (Diana) Morton and Michael Morton of Pensacola, FL. Great-grandchildren Jack and Aly Bryan and Anslee Sloan. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.



A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her family provided her with her greatest joys. She also will be remembered for her love of animals, especially her beloved cat, Taffy.



A faithful servant of the Baptist faith, Mrs. Abercrombie was a member of the Gainesville Baptist Tabernacle where she taught Sunday School for many years.



Retired from Roses Department Store after many years of service, she had previously worked in the poultry industry.



The family would like to thank Ginger Lewis and Susan Tucker with Evercare Hospice and Tammy Allen, Gail Peck and Marie Guerrier with Willow Wood Nursing Center for the loving care during her illness and at her death.



Graveside services will be held Sunday July 18, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Alta Vista Cemetery with the Rev. Grady Mosely officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday, July 17th at Mason & Ward Funeral Home of Gainesville.
