Steve Jack Garrison

Steve Jack Garrison, Sr., 66, of Commerce, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010.

Born in Commerce, Steve was a son of the late Swayne and Hazel Moss Garrison. He was raised in Toccoa until 1953 when his family relocated to Peoria, Ill. as his father continued his career with LeTourneau. The family returned to Georgia in 1957, this time settling in Commerce where his father would establish the family business, Commerce Tire Co., in 1959. As a teenager, Steve began working with his father and would eventually become owner of the business. He enjoyed travel, particularly traveling abroad, and spending time with his family on Lake Hartwell. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Commerce where he served as Sunday School superintendent for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Janice McCollum Garrison; sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Julie Garrison, Waleska, and Kevin Garrison, Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Shell and Jason Withers, Commerce; three granddaughters, Hannah Garrison, Leah Garrison, and Lauren Withers; brother, Paul Garrison, Lavonia.
