Hayward Sorrow

Ivie Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Hayward William Sorrow, 81, who died at his home on July 2, 2010. Born on April 15, 1929 in Commerce, he was the son of the late Hope and Erma Holcomb Sorrow. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jo Wood. Mr. Sorrow retired from Harmony Grove Mills and was a member of Berea Baptist Church.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing the guitar, banjo and violin, singing, playing horseshoe and gardening. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Evelyn Mealor Sorrow; daughters and son-in-law, Joanne Sorrow, Jill Sorrow, Janice and Ervin Ramsey; son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Barbara Sorrow; granddaughters, Jordan Ramsey, Erin Ramsey and Amanda Sorrow; grandsons, Nathan Sorrow and Andrew Sorrow. Funeral services for Mr. Sorrow will be conducted on Sunday at 2 PM from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Sorrow officiating. Interment will follow in the Midway Cemetery at Gillsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Samaritan Purse Operation Christmas Child. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 7-9 PM and at other times at the residence located at 190 Berea Church Rd. in Commerce.
