Sgt. Albert Grady Mitchell, Jr

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Sergeant Albert Grady (A.G.) Mitchell, Jr., age 92, of Jefferson, who passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Mr. Mitchell, born in Jackson County was the son of the late Albert (Rip) and Lillian Venable Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell founded and operated Mitchell Hardware and Building Supply continuously since 1950. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church for 80 years; and was preceded in death by his wife: Lottie Toney Mitchell, son: Jerry Mitchell, daughter-in-law: Judy Marlowe Mitchell, and sister: Amelia Lawson.

Mr. Mitchell was U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the 1061st Engineer Port Construction and Repair Group. Albert received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
