Inez Lipford Jones

Obituary Date: Tuesday, June 1, 2010
Mrs. Inez Lipford Jones of Chicopee died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Morningside

of Gainesville. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Lipford of Franklin,

Georgia, where she was born November 13, 1914. She was the wife of the late Sylvester

B. Jones.

Mrs. Jones received a B. A. degree in French from Georgia State College for

Women, now Georgia College and State University. She later attended Oglethorpe

University and North Georgia College and was certified as a school librarian. She taught

school at Ephasus High School, Summertown High School, Air Line High School and

served as librarian at Candler Elementary and Jones Elementary Schools. She retired in

June, 1980, having served twenty-seven years as a professional educator.

Mrs. Jones was a member of the Hall County Education Association, the Georgia

Association of Educators, the National Education Association, the Hall County

Librarian's Association, the Georgia Library Association, and the Georgia Library/Media

Association. She served as President of the Hall County Library Association. She

attended the first Governor's Conference on Libraries and Information Services held in

Atlanta. Active in church work at Chicopee United Methodist Church, Mrs. Jones served

as Sunday School teacher, Secretary of Social Concerns and President of United

Methodist Women. She also served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and

Church Librarian, in which capacity she worked actively for many years to create and

maintain a good church library. She was a member of Villagers. She served as president

of the Chicopee Woman's Club and held several offices in the Parent-Teacher

Association at Jones Elementary School. She was also active in the American Heart

Association's Heart Fund Drive and in The United Way.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Janie Turner and Fred Turner,

grandchildren Caroline and Scott Turner, all of Atlanta; sister Louise Cone of Statesboro;

niece Janice Carroll; and nephews, Dr. Rufus Cone, Lloyd Snyder, and Dr. Robert

Snyder.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at the chapel of

Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family

will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 on Saturday at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
