Calvin Smith

Calvin Smith, age 63, of Homer, GA passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Athens Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Smith was born on May 30, 1946, in Jackson County, GA to the late Oliver and Maybelle Baugh Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Smith. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist Faith. He was the City Manager of Homer, GA for over 28 years. Mr. Smith was an avid golfer, fisherman, and race car driver.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Clark McCarty, Hull, GA; his son, Calvin Todd Smith, Homer, GA; his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Jamie Smith, Homer, GA; his sister, Geraldine Brake, Maysville, GA; his brother, Randy Smith, Liberty, SC; and his grandchildren, Malcom McCarty and Mitchell McCarty both of Hull, GA, Mason Todd Smith, Homer, GA, and Alexis Smith, Commerce, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Homer Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Rogers and Rev. Stacey Sims officiating. Interment will follow at Banks County Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2010, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA.
