Dean Carlton Burt

Mr. Dean Carlton Burt, age 85, of Demorest, GA, died May 15, 2010 at the Magnolia Hills Retirement Home in Demorest, GA.

Mr. Burt was a native of Dawson County, GA. He was co-owner and operator of Burt Brothers Tire and Alignment in Doraville from 1969 until 1983. Upon his retirement he moved to Lake Lanier near Buford Dam where he lived for many years. He was a resident of Magnolia Hills Retirement Home for the last five years of his life. Mr. Burt was an avid gardener throughout his life who will be remembered for his beautiful roses, hydrangeas, and prize winning tomatoes. He also enjoyed the restoration of antique cars and furniture. He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church in Dawson County and was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Mr. Burt was the son of the late Alonzo and Nettie McClure Burt and was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Ann Burt; son, Carlton Burt; daughter, Janet Burt; brothers, Clyde, Howard, Carl, and Theo Burt; and sister, Cleo Welch.

He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Judy and Chris Jones, Dahlonega, GA, Joyce Elliott, Dahlonega, GA; former wife, Helen Holtzclaw Burt, Dahlonega, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Winford and Laura Mae Burt, Dawsonville, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Harben, Dawsonville, GA, Inez and Grady McGuire, Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Chelsea, Kevin, and Nathan Jones, all of Dahlonega, GA; sisters-in-law, Golda Heard, Dawsonville, GA, Jewell Burt, Dawsonville, GA, Lynn Burt, Dacula, GA, and Joyce Gann, Sautee, GA. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 AM Monday May 17, 2010 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with Rev. Russell Burt officiating.

Interment will follow in the New Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery in Habersham County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 PM until 7 PM Sunday May 16, 2010.
