Charlie Lee Marcus

Charlie Lee Marcus, age 79, of Cornelia passed away Monday, April 19, 2010 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Born in Habersham County, Georgia on April 12, 1931, he was the son of the late George and Drucilla Heaton Marcus. Mr. Marcus retired, as a corporal, from the Cornelia Police Department with 27 years of service and also worked with the Clarkesville Fire Department. He attended Alto Congregational Holiness Church and enjoyed traveling to the mountains. Mr. Marcus also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Marcus; sister, Maebelle Marcus; brothers, Junior, Houston, Tommy and G.W. Marcus.

Survivors include wife of 52 years, Hazel Goss Marcus of Cornelia; granddaughters and spouses, Marsha and Effort Nalley of Gillsville and Barbara and Zackary Smith of Cornelia; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Savannah and Jackson Anderson and Alexus, Koby and Destani Smith; sister, Mary Alice Ivester of Clarkesville; brothers, Claude, James and J.C. Marcus, all of Clarkesville.

Funeral services are 2:00 pm Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Alto Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Tim Beasley, Rev. Leon Brown and Rev. Chris Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Bill Trotter officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 20th, and also from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 21st. The family is at the residence.
