Bishop W.G. Abney

Bishop W.G. Abney, Sr., age 90, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Buford Church of God with Bishop Edward Davenport, Bishop T.L. Lowery, and grandson Rev. W.G. (Trey) Abney, III officiating. Pastor Abney will lie in state at the church from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. Entombment will be in Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Katherine M. Abney. He was Pastor Emeritus of Buford Church of God and had pastored churches in Tennessee and Georgia for 45 years. He was also State Overseer of Montana for eight years and was in the ministry from 1941 to 2010.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Angie Abney, Jr. of Riverdale and Jerry and Ibis Abney of Miami, FL; daughters, Norma Wilson of Cumming and Nancy Crane of Buford; grandchildren, Katrina Thompson, Michael Webb, Connie Beavers, Trey Abney and Alisha Abney; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Rev. Billy Abney of Macon and Bobby Abney of Georgetown, FL; sister, Mildred Lumpkin of Buford.
